How God spoke through an odometer began one day this summer. I was heading out on my daily bike ride of ten miles, and the odometer did not respond. I stopped to fix it, but I could not get the odometer working. So, I returned to my house. Just then, the phone rang and I received an important phone call for which I had waiting. Once the call was completed, I went out to my bike and the odometer was working. Was God calling me back home through the odometer? (Keep in mind, God knows I have a yearly goal for 3000+ miles, so it is important that it works.)
That story was repeated several times throughout the summer: I would head off on my bike; the odometer didn't work; I would return; I would answer the phone, or I would remember something I had forgotten; I would return to the bike and the odometer was working. God seemed to be communicating to me through the odometer.
I guess I could have overlooked the odometer and kept on riding. God knew I wouldn't. I didn't for the most part. I learned to be sensitive to the odometer.
I did wrestle with why this odometer did this. I wondered if the wi-fi signals or other airwaves affected this wireless odometer. I wondered if it had got wet. I had bought new batteries for it, but that didn't change anything.
Finally though, I decided to throw it out. Twice it recorded me riding bike and I had stopped. Not only that, I was riding at speeds faster than a car, even possibly faster than Super man. So, despite God using this odometer to get things accomplished, I tossed it. God will have to use another way to speak to me.
I just tried out my new odometer yesterday. I couldn't get it to go faster than 3 miles per hour. After two miles, I stopped and looked it over. I found a button, pushed it, and now it was working. I was wondering if God was going to use this new odometer in the same way.
Yes, I am sure this sounds strange. Then again, God spoke audibly through a donkey. How would you like to blog about that story?
