By the way, you could also add the words of Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you." God will give perfect peace to those who keep their minds centered on God. Add to this the powerful words of Paul in Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Wow! Peace seems like some so attainable. Why don't we have it?
We don't want God. That is the short and simple answer to the question. We don't have peace, because we don't want God. We want to things our way. We want to resolve our own problems. We want to be self-sufficient. So, we keep spinning our anxiety wheels and live in fear and confusion. We don't need to be there. God is source of peace, but can we actually humble ourselves and turn to God and his Word for peace.
Many changes are occurring at my wife's workplace. Those changes can't steal her peace. All she needs to do is to keep focused on God and she will experience peace. It's easier said than done, but peace is there for taking. God has the gift of peace boxed and wrapped and ready for her as a gift if she seeks after him.
Murder, violence, political campaigns (lies), gossip, hatred, wars, natural disasters, and so much more flood the news. You can't get away from the bad news. Yet, even with all the horrendous news going on around us we can have peace. How? Keep our hearts focused on God.
I have recently had a broken collar bone. I was off of work for about two months without pay. Those situations can burglarize your peace. They don't need to though. We need to keep centered on God.
Yes, God makes it so clear in the Bible. He says, "Do you want to have peace? Turn to me." Pretty clear and simple.
Yet, we still hold out hoping that we can resolve our turmoil in whatever form on our own. What a shame!
