Here is my entry after I wrote this last quote. See if you can follow my thoughts; I did not revise it or fluff it up for you:
What a good thought, Father!
It is different, but it reminds me of the words of 1 Samuel 3;19, "The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and let none of his words fall to ground."
To connect that verse to Henri Nouwen- Samuel probably did not go around endlessly speaking. He probably only said the words you wanted him to say, at least in his prophetic ministry.
And the words of your Son Jesus, "For I did not speak on my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. (John 12:49)" Even the tone of voice! How amazing! I have so much to learn and so much to grow to be like Jesus, my Lord and Savior. I so much need your mercy.
That reminds me of the words of Henri Nouwen from September 11, "He who thinks that he has finished is finished. Those who think they have arrived, have lost their way. Those who think they have reached their goal, have missed it. Those who think they are saints, are demons. An important part of the spiritual life is to keep longing, waiting, hoping, expecting."
Humility connects it all: Humility to be quiet; we too often speak out of pride. Humility before God to speak only what he wants us to speak. Humility to submit to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Humility to think that we are still on a journey and to think we have not 'arrived' and are not 'completed.'
